The History of Pai Gow
One can trace the history of Pai gow back to China where it was an original and unique domino game that used a symbolic, mysterious and difficult to learn set of tiles. The goal of the game was to "make nine," which is roughly what pai gow means. However, pai gow poker as we know it today is a later evolution of the game combined with American Poker.
The mid 1800's are thought to be the time when variations of Pai gow poker started appearing, but it still took over 150 years before the game became popular as it is known today.
In 1986 pai gow was introduced to the card rooms of California. By 1987, pai gow poker was in the casinos of Las Vegas. Gradually, during the years to come, Atlantic City also acknowledged pai gow poker and welcomed this special game into its casinos.
Today, Pai gow can be found in casinos that draw a significant Asian clientele. It may be hard to find in Las Vegas but virtually every casino in Atlantic City has it.
